the other day i was watching a video about athenian democracy. it was really neat to learn about, going over how it changed from psudo-monarchy, to oligarchy, to a direct democracy where everyone had a say. you didn't need to be born to a certain family, you didn't need to own property, and you could even be an immigrant (a big deal for ancient times), and still vote. everybody had true equality in government.
except, no, you still had to be a man. and that's given lip service in the form of "well not everybody-- women and children couldn't vote," but then for the entire rest of the video it's shortened to everybody, everybody, everybody, the people the people the people, how fair and equal and modern and sweet.
women are not a footnote. we have always been half the population. so that society where every man could vote and run for election and make a change from the bottom up and none of the women could, was a useless society. what a pointless shameful ridiculous idea of democracy.

Why do men take power but women are always expected to settle for being Given empowerment? I don’t want what you’re giving me. I don’t wanna put stock in a feeling that doesn’t translate into legitimate action. What does empowerment actually do for women except placate our anger? I don’t want women to Feel empowered, I want women to Be powerful.
Power isn’t a feeling. When you have power, you can use it to make changes. Do not settle for being sold empowerment.
